The Home Makers Bazaar – the story so far …

The Home Makers Bazaar started in March 2023, the day before Mothering Sunday.

We opened our doors to over 20 sellers and makers in and around the Harrow area and beyond.

The idea was to present a showcase of new and upcoming makers who wanted to move forward with their ideas, or attract a wider following beyond family and friends and perhaps those outside of our immediate work circle.

From its inception in March 2023, there have been a total of 7 fairs with the last one held on Sunday 1 December 2024.

One of our visitors described the venture as “an incubator for baby businesses.” This would be almost true if makers were supported directly by the bazaar but at present this just is not possible.

Over the several fairs we hosted a wide range of makers, creators, aspirers and admirers. Dressmakers, self-published authors, paper-crafters, crocheters, bakers, oils and watercolor artists, weavers, home-scents and cosmetic producers as well as jewelry makers and graphic printers tread our boards.

So, from the above, THUMB (The Home Makers Bazaar), rates itself as successful in terms of attracting budding businesses. Sellers visited from as far away as Ilford, Slough and Watford.

The newest sellers have extended their social media following through their connections with other sellers at THUMB. By engaging directly with the public and other sellers, the newbie sellers get feedback which is free and valuable.

The sellers range from individuals, couples, new mums and students. Those who want to get ‘out of their heads’ and see their idea take physical shape. THUMB has been the first space for some of these ideas. This is AWESOME!!

In 2025, THUMB plans to host another set of fairs and the first of these is Sunday 2 March 2025 and then another on Sunday 8 June.
